Following confirmation last year that Amazon had acquired an Israeli chip designer company, for what is believed to be in excess of $375 million. News is not being released that Amazon will be selling to OEM and datacentres a new line of microprocessors. The focus is on IoT – Internet of things devices
Amazon’s new chip business doesn’t appear to have much crossover with Intel which currently commands 99% of a market which is estimated at $12 billion.of the server chip market share. But Amazon is gearing for the “low-power computers” for storage and networking – internet and TV. We can expect a boom of new electronic design ideas as Annapurna will also let manufacturers develop their own versions of its chips.
